March 23, 2017 “Our Farewell to SA

A week ago, I set foot on South African soil for the first time in over 6 months. This is a country that our family has been calling our second home. In retrospect, we have always been the family that welcomes Americans that serve for a short time. We would say goodbye to people who never were meant to stay forever. Now we find ourselves on the other side of that story as we prepare to say farewell.

During a time of praying and fasting recently, we felt led to ask the Lord a few questions. We were in the midst of fundraising with hopes to return back to South Africa. After several attention getting events unfolded, we felt led to pause our fundraising and inquire the Lord. One of those questions was, “Lord, do you want us to return back to South Africa.” His response to us was a surprising “No.” We were so shocked at his response that it took us a few weeks to continue to be still and listen to what He desired our next steps to be.

Our heavenly Father was so kind as He answered us with this verse:

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19

Being lost in a wilderness depicted from this verse describes how we felt for a moment. However, the Lord gave us direction by clearly showing us our next steps as a family and for ministry. His desire for us is to stay in the USA and continue in full-time ministry by joining staff at our home church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

As our dear ministry partner, we wanted to share this with you. We are in the beginning stage of the process to come off of the missions field and transition leaving staff with Cru. This process requires a few months to complete, so our expected leave date is August 1st 2017.

Words cannot express how full our hearts are knowing that many of you have been a part of our 8-year journey as missionaries. Some of you have been a part of my and Tammi’s story serving there while single. By the Lord’s grace, we met each other in South Africa, got married in the US only to return 3 years later to continue serving. You were there through the birth of our two sons overseas as well! We praise God for you!

We thank God for your sacrificial giving over the years and for the countless individuals who are now following Christ in South Africa. On that glorious day when we see Christ in heaven, we are certain there will be a line of individuals that will run up to you and thank you for sending the Good News to their land. May the Lord bless you! We are incredibly thankful to the Lord!

As we trust Him with these upcoming months, pray for us as we venture out and settle into a new place to call home. We would like to continue to receive full paychecks for these expected expenses until our termination date is reached. If you are partnered with us financially, please continue to do so until August. If you have questions please visit our FAQ page on our blog. Our letter next month will introduce you to the staff we work with in South Africa and how you will have the opportunity to partner with them.

March 4, 2017 “Pardon Our Silence

Exactly 3 years ago we were preparing to depart from the USA to go and share the Gospel in Cape Town, South Africa. Arriving in the country 7 months pregnant, we followed the voice of the Lord calling us to live, raise our family, and make disciples among some of the best universities on the continent. The past few years of ministry have been incredible doing just that.

When we returned to the USA for our furlough 6 months ago, we were at first overwhelmed and exhausted from our traveling. On the other hand, we were thrilled to be around our family and friends. We apologize that you have not received an update from us lately. Honestly, we have sensed the Lord drawing us into fasting and prayer for our next season of ministry which required us to withdraw, be still, and to quietly listen to His voice.

We will return to South Africa in April, but Jerrah will be returning early to make preparations. We do, however, sense that the Lord is leading us to continue in ministry, but in a different direction soon. Since our fasting and praying, we do have peace knowing the Lord desires to order our steps differently and we have an open hand for Him to do just that.

Please join with us in prayer. We have committed our lives to sharing the Gospel wherever the Lord takes us. Pray for God’s clear direction, our traveling mercies back to South Africa, and our hearts to continuously be aligned with the heart of Jesus. We will update you in a few weeks with exactly what that is.
